Perfect guide for the Omo Valley

Reviewed May 14, 2014

Four years ago I traveled to Ethiopia for the first time. A trip to the Omo Valley had been my dream for a long while already. I wanted to visit the tribes of the Omo Valley and learn about their habits and their lives. We booked the trip via an ethiopean travel agency and had Muluken as a guide. Frankly, I was quite sceptical in the beginning whether this young dude would be able to meet all my demands regarding photography and information... but things turned out way different! To my opinion Muluken is the most competent and best guide that I could ever have wished for. He arranged the trip exactly as per my wishes, staying longer in places where I wanted to spent more time for my photography. Muluken made sure the tour turned out "custom made" - even though it was a originally a standard initerary from a travel agency. His knowledge about the different tribes was really impressive and I returned home with lots of information - and even more pictures. Based on this good experience, another 2 tours were booked privately with Muluken in the following years and the organisation of the trips and the accomodation were again perfectly matched by Muluken to my individual wishes. The visit to the Surma tribe in Kibish will always remain one of the absolute highlights of Ethiopia for me. A complete different world, far away from Addis and even further from our european cultures. Thanks to Muluken his contacts in the Surma area I experienced the thrill of attending a Donga stickfight and the visit to the several remote villages will be an unforgettable memory for a lifetime. 3 tours with Muluken resulted in uncountable tales to tell the folks at home, who - a pity for them - have not been bitten by the adventure bug as I have been, but who love to hear the stories and see the accompanying stunning pictures. Dear Muluken.... we will soon meet again for a 4th trip in your exciting country!

Omo Valley's finest

Reviewed May 1, 2014

Muluken guided us several times securely through the remote and savage parts on both sides of the Omo River. Thanks to him we were able to experience the life style of the different tribes living in this area close and like being part of their environment instead of being mere tourists. Muluken is able to make the most out of every situation and to show parts of Ethiopia and ways of Ethiopian life that are way more as can be described in whatever issue of Lonely Planet. Muluken is way on top in his experience with the local people, the handling of any situation, the gathering and selecting of equipment and staff (driver, cook - you'll name it) and he is a good bloke for conversation and fun. For every young hearted open minded globally interested traveller I can only recommend Muluken. For our next Etiopia travel we will use his services again and definitely not settle for less! Thank you Muluken for the Donga fights, the Bull jump (including the notorious whipping), the young Hamar bride, the kiss of a Mursi woman - with enormous lipplate - and all those other unforgettable experiences we were able to encounter thanks to your determination and flexibility.

Muluken is the best tour guide I have ever used.

Muluken is the best tour guide I have ever used, and I have hired many in the past. He is friendly, personable and quickly became a friend. I cannot recommend him high enough, if you're looking for a guide this is a guy you should hire quick before he books up. I have some particular needs when I travel and he was able to take care of each one. I give him my highest recommendation. He was responsive to all of my needs including special dietary concerns. Whatever I needed or wanted while in Addis, he was able to accomplish. His English is really good, he even understood my NY slang! The one thing that I must explain to you is that he is extremely friendly, genuine and authentic.

Visit Ethiopia with Muluken!

We highly recommend Muluken to help you get the most from your visit to Ethiopia. We have used Muluken’s services three times and he has been excellent every time, putting a great deal of thought and care into the organisation of the excursions he took us on. We were also travelling with a small toddler and Muluken was sensitive to our needs and tailored the trips accordingly. Ethiopia is an amazing place to visit and thanks to Muluken, we have been able to see so much more of it than otherwise would have been possible; not just the main sights and tourist attractions but also less known parts of the country. We were even privileged to visit a typical village in the south of Addis and were invited to join the celebratory meal of a christening with the ten families who lived there. The entire experience was overwhelming and really emotional.
