Best tour guide in New Orleans

Reviewed June 11, 2015

There is no better tour guide anywhere in the world than Randy Bibb, and I travel a lot. He is a wealth of information, really knows his history, is patient kind, tailors the tour to the interests of the people. Whenever I hear of anyone going to New Orleans, I give them Randy's contact information and tell them they have to take one of his tours. Everyone has been grateful for the tip. One of his tours should be number one on anyone's list of things to do in New Orleans.

Highlight Of Our Trip to New Orleans

Reviewed June 11, 2015

Randy Bibb was our tour guide in New Orleans back in 2012. What impressed us the most was that his knowledge of New Orleans was impeccable, he had tons of personality, and it was one of the most friendly and warm experiences we ever had on a trip. We weren't treated like customers; we felt like friends. He continues to educate and share his passion for New Orleans through social media outlets that we happily follow. To this day, we have stayed in touch with Randy; this alone speaks volumes about the outstanding experience you will receive with Randy as your tour guide!

What a GREAT part of our trip to NOLA!

We had the pleasure of taking two tours with Randy in the same day. The heat of the mid-day sun was brutal in the St. Louis Cemetery, but to our amazement, Randy's tour kept all four of our children's interest, as well as ours of course! They even had pertinent questions of their own as we went...who WERE those well-behaved and engaged children?! He was cognizant of the discomfort of the day, showing us the site, then finding shade when possible to tell us more about it. When one of the other people on the tour with our family couldn't take the heat and had to leave early, he acted quickly and professionally. His knowledge of the cemetery was deep and wide and when we found a buried tombstone that had been recently exposed, he did the research that night and contacted us the next day to tell us all about to whom it belonged, which was WAY beyond the call of duty. We found him very, VERY dedicated to what he does and his historical grounding was exactly what we were looking for. The history intermingled with his unique perspective, personal experiences, interaction with the kiddos and great sense of humor made our tour GREAT. My 15 year old daughter and I left the rest of the family at the pool and we took the 7:30 ghost tour the same day as part of her birthday celebration. We saw other guides in cheesy costumes delivering shock value without substance, but Randy was again grounded in historical references and stories of real events and his personal experiences...EXACTLY what we were looking for. My daughter is a huge Anne Rice fan and had been reading Interview with the Vampire on the way to NOLA. She was disappointed to learn there wasn't really much vampire lore to be shared prior to Anne Rice using the city in her book. However, Randy took notice of her interest in the topic and showed us the house where Anne based her book, which she thought was awesome! As with the cemetery tour, knowledge, humor, and personality made this tour great. We also learned a lot about Vodou (not Voodoo we learned), which we found very interesting. The final story he told had great "wow" factor and I think we all had goose bumps. At the end of the tour, Randy told my daughter that he had a copy of Interview personally signed by Anne Rice at an event he attended that he would like to give it to her for her birthday. You don't see that kind of excitement from a 15 year old girl very often! He met us the next day at Mother's Restaurant and brought it to her. She asked him to sign it as well, which he did graciously. She told all her friends about it and can't wait to get home to display it proudly! Ask for Randy by name if you're looking for a great experience...we highly recommend him! The Abernathy Family

THANKS! I had fun hanging out with you guys! Actually, if you recall, your son discovered the buried tomb tablet when he kicked away some dirt. He's a budding archaeologist! It was quite a find! I put a picture of it in my gallery. Thanks again.

    Randy is the best!

Randy Bibb was great. He was very funny and engaging, cracking jokes and sharing personal stories along with the ghost stories. Most importantly, he was the real deal. When it comes to ghost stories and sordid histories - it's easy to amplify, misrepresent and play up the morbidity which is often the case with some ghost tour guides. That was not Randy. He was committed to the facts (believe he said he was also a historian and worked closely with the city archives). He told it how it was and it was more interesting than some lurid overstatement. He shared several stories around the area (incl. his personal experience with the supernatural phenomena) and debunked the whole negative perception of the Voodoo religion. He also mentioned the erroneous light that American Horror Story has shed on the history of New Orleans which I think is important to emphasize. Thanks Randy!
