Wild and windswept, and packed with creatures to make your eyes turn, the Komodo National Park is Indonesia's answer to the Galapagos of South America. Stretching out over a series of 29 islands in the Lesser Sunda chain, the whole reserve has been magnetising divers and wildlife views since it was established. Today, it's even marked with a prestigious UNESCO World Heritage tag; championed for the sheer biodiversity that thrives between its boundaries. Visitors who snorkel with Komodo National Park tour guides across the swells of the Flores Sea can expect to find unparalleled (and still largely undocumented) marine life, from the curious likes of clown frogfish to blue-ringed octopi that flit in and around the shimmering corals bordering its white beaches. On land, there's the eponymous dune stalker that gave the place its very name: the Komodo dragon. This primordial creature is the world's largest lizard, and can still be seen rumbling over the sandy peaks, trampling the mangroves and facing off to crab-eating macaques in the forests.
