Skardu sits in the shadow of the legendary Karakoram Ranges, making it a mecca for adventure travelers. There’s also some interesting forts and eateries to sample with a tourHQ guide on the ground.

There’s no question about it: Skardu is all about the mountains. For nearly two centuries intrepid types have flocked to this valley town on the edge of the old Silk Road to gather their gear before heading out to case the famous trails of the mighty Karakoram peaks, or to explore the verdant pastures of the Shigar Valley; enfolded in its ring of snow-tipped summits and endless fields of fruit laden groves.
Naturally, the setting makes for a wealth of natural wonders, and mountains aside, visitors here can also discover the high-perched freshwater lakes of Kachura and Sadpara, not to mention the mighty snaking meanders of the iconic Indus River. However, as any Skardu tourist guide is quick to note, the town itself is not without its attractions; boasting the fascinating Kharpocho Fort, a smattering of ancient Buddhist carvings and Chinese-cum-Tibetan-cum-Pakistani eateries, appeasing the mountain appetite with spicy tandoori curries and earthy stir fries.
