Darwin is a fantastic guide and made our trip to Indonesia truely memorable

Reviewed October 28, 2018

Darwin is an exceptional guide who looked after us from the moment we walked out of the airport in Yogyakarta until the moment we left.  His knowledge and expereince is second to none and he really bought the places we visited to life.  Darwin didnt just give us the run of the mill history stuff, he also told us about the culture and different religions in Indonesia and how they all fitted together.  This gave us a feeling of the spirituality of the places we visited and we came away feeling richer for our expereince with Darwin.  He has a lovely, relaxed way about him and is very comfortable to be with.  He made our trip fun too and being a keen photographer Darwin took loads of photos for us.  You genuinly felt that it was important to Darwin that you enjoyed your time and that you got a feel for the heart and soul of the places we visited together.

We travelled to Indonesia in december 2016. Our trip started in Java and Darwin was our guide. Darwin made our trip even more special because he understood what kind off thingd we were interested in. Darwin is smart, knows a lot of his culture and he feels what your interests are as visitor. He goes outside the tourist sphere if you like that. He takes initiative and really wants you to have a great time and learn about the culture. We did some great things and will remember this trip. Our daughter is still in Bali (she studies in Denpasar). She and het girlfriend did the Borobudur with Darwin and had a great time.  They met Darwin's sons and had lunch together. We recommend Darwin most highly!

Darwin was a terrific guide. He was smart, knew his stuff, but what really put him over the top for us was his ability and willingness to take initiative and problem solve to make our trip truly unique and tailored to us.  I love to dance and enjoy finding local dance classes wherever I go.  Darwin found me a class available to local college and high school students that met in a community center.  The instructor had taught in the states and the class was wonderful.  I was able to take a class in Indonesian folk dancing in a community of local dancer.

We enjoy eating where the locals do.  It is a way to interact with  locals and to see folks in ordinary daily life.  Darwin believed us when we said we wanted local foods and brought us to places where his family ate.  The food was better than at the best hotels that often dumb it down for tourist and the price was so affordable. It is hard to find a guide willing to think outside the box and who also is willing to take the risk of taking outside the tourist sphere.  We recommend him most highly.

We, as a group of 23, went on one of Darwin's first tours of Java and Bali in May (I think) of 2015.  It was a full and very fun and interesting trip.  I was on the older side of the group and have back problems and breathing problems.  He took such good care of me the few times I needed help.  He was very attentive to all of us, and we could tell how much he cared.  He sent some of our group, and others, a Christmas greeting even though he is not a Christian.  Some of us stay in touch.  He made us CDs and gave us gheckos for our key rings.  We met some of his family, of which he is very proud.  It was a neat trip - my first time to that culture and I would say everything was great except some of the food I couldn't eat, but certainly not his fault.

On a recent trip to Indonesia, Darwin Masanang was my guide in Yogyakarta, escorting me to Borobudur and Prambanan.  Darwin was an exceptional guide, amongst the best I have experienced on five continents over 30 years of personal travel.  Not only is his knowledge extremely extensive, he is attentive, a pleasure to keep company with, and he anticipates his client's best interest.  Darwin puts his heart in his work, and having him as your guide will truly enhance your experience and your appreciation of the destination!
