The adventure tour starts from the trekker’s hostel in Kyanjiki. The best time to start is 08:30 am, but we can leave as late as 10:00 am. The tour guides will meet you and have a briefing session. Then, you will walk 2.2 km to the UWA rangers post at 1,727 meters.
Here, the rangers will brief you on the day’s activities and the rules of the national park. Your schedule will help you cover 8.6 km over an expected time of 5-6 hours; start height is 1,667 meters, climbing to 3,171 meters.
The first two kilometers of the climbs are a steady trail through mountain forest with tall trees thick undergrowth and a multitude of different species of birds and primates. Then you come across a steep climb up the main ridge with a few rocks and a firm footing. The forests are untouched and carry a wide variety of trees and plants. Many species of birds can be heard and seen in this environment.
As we climb, the trees become taller and straighter and it is common to see and hear many types of primates who shrieking voices echo around the valleys. You will also see their nests high up in the tall trees. Near our lunch spot at 2,570 m, it is possible to see troupes of 15 to 20 black & white colobus monkeys or blue monkeys as they dash through the trees.
A few hundred meters beyond the lunch spot, bamboo zone commences and we climb up another half kilometers to a small cave which was previously used by poachers. The dense bamboo is home to different species of birds and insects. We climb steadily and as we approach the 3,000-meter level the bamboos give way to giant heather trees covered in bearded moss.
As we arrive at the Samalira Camp, we get to witness spectacular views of the foothills with Lake George and Queen Elisabeth National Park on one side and Kasese town on the other.
Overnight stay.

After taking a few pictures, we then descend back down to the post and return to Kilembe.
