This tour is a wonderful opportunity to explore Odessa catacombs located outside the historic centre.
The catacombs represent a network of underground tunnels and labyrinths. At present, the length of the Odessa catacombs is estimated at approximately 2,500-3,000 kilometers!
Initially a place for the extraction of limestone, catacombs later turned into a shelter for smugglers, bandits, slave traders, and partisans.
Catacombs in Odessa were never used as a cemetery (like in Paris), more correct word for our underground tunnels is "mine", for limestone extraction. In soviet times, in the period of Cold war, some catacombs were turned into nuclear bunkers. During the tour, we'll visit one of them.

- Visit the famous museum called the "Secrets of underground Odessa".
- We'll enter to catacombs via an old garage which used to be the entrance to a secret nuclear bunker in the past.
- The catacombs represent a network of underground tunnels and labyrinths. At present, the length of the Odessa catacombs is estimated at approximately 2,500-3,000 kilometers. We will walk around 2 km, to learn about Odessa's history, how the city was built, from what material, and how it was extracted.

What to bring
- Note: Be sure to wear comfortable shoes for the tour, and also take some light jacket or sweater with you (if during summertime), because the temperature in catacombs is always around 14 degrees, so be sure to dress appropriately.
Know before you go
Be sure you don't have claustrophobia, and you're fit enough to go 25 meters underground and walk 2 km.
