Description

Embark on an adventurous trek through the scenic Marangu route to the famous peaks of Kilimanjaro Mountain and enjoy the panoramic Kibo and Mawenzi along the way. Make stops at the gorgeous Horombo and Kibo Huts and take in magnificent views from the top of the Uhuru Summit.

  • Day 1: Moshi to Mandara Huts (2750 m.) via Marangu Gate expand_more
    • After breakfast, depart from the hotel and drive to Marangu Gate, where the permit for trekking will be issued. 
    • Do the formalities at the gate, which takes about 1 hour.
    • Start trekking after an introduction to the team by the chief guide. The route begins at the Marangu Gate of the national park at 1800 m. 
    • Walk through the fascinating rainforest to the Mandara Huts at 2750 m. 

    Dinner and overnight.

  • Day 2: Mandara Huts to Horombo Huts (3780 m) expand_more
    • After breakfast, ascend through rolling alpine meadows containing giant Heather trees.
    • Enjoy the flora and views of Mawenzi and Kibo Peaks on this leisurely trail. 
    • A picnic lunch is served on the way to Horombo Hut.

    Dinner and overnight at Horombo Hut.

  • Day 3: Horombo hut to Zebra rocks (3959 m) expand_more
    • After breakfast, have a short day of walking for acclimatization to the beautiful rocks coloured with black and white strips on the way to Mawenzi peak and back to Horombo hut for hot lunch.
  • Day 4: Horombo Huts to Kibo Huts (4700 m) expand_more
    • After a good night's rest, continue past the cactus-like ”Senecious” and the "last water" stream and moves onto the lunar landscape on the saddle between Kibo and Mawenzi.
    • Arrive at Kibo Hut (4700 m) for dinner and overnight.
  • Day 5: Uhuru Peak expand_more
    • The start for the summit is made in the early hours of the morning to reach Gillman’s Point (5680 m) before dawn. 
    • From Gilman’s Point, one can witness the most panoramic and unforgettable sunrise.
    • A one-hour walk from Gilman’s Point, you reach the highest point in Africa, Uhuru Peak, at 5,895 m.

    Overnight at Horombo Hut.

  • Day 6: Horombo Huts to Moshi via Marangu Gate expand_more
    • Another half day's leisurely walk and you're back at the park entrance where you will meet with the representative.
    • Head back to your hotel for rest.

Know before you go
  • As a sensible precaution, we recommend that you consider getting at least some of the following recommended immunizations:
    • Hepatitis A – You can get Hepatitis A through contaminated food or water in Tanzania, regardless of where you eat or stay.
    • Typhoid – You can get Typhoid through contaminated food or water in Tanzania, especially if you visit smaller cities or rural areas. Please check with your local travel clinic for the latest recommendations.
  • Immigration & customs
    • An onward ticket and sufficient funds are required when entering Tanzania. Tanzanian people are friendly and will always offer a helping hand.
    • Most visitors to Tanzania require a visa. Visas are available at your local Tanzanian Embassy. Costs vary from country to country. Visas are valid for 3 months. It is possible, however, to obtain a tourist’s visa for a single entry at any ONE of the FOUR MAIN ENTRIES into Tanzania -subject to the fulfilment of all immigration and health requirements. These entries are:
      Dar-es-Salaam International Airport
      Zanzibar International Airport
      Kilimanjaro International Airport
      Namanga Entry Point (Tanzania-Kenya border point)
    • Payment, at all these points, is in US Dollars or its equivalent in Sterling. For all other entry points in Tanzania, visitors must hold valid visas prior to approaching those entry points in Tanzania. However, in order to avoid unnecessary delays, those who proceed to Tanzania from a country where there is a Tanzania Diplomatic Mission or Consular Office are strongly advised to obtain their entry visa prior to departure to Tanzania.
