First and foremost, our tour of Trincomalee, Sri Lanka with Anthony was outstanding! We disembarked from our ship early and he was there to greet us with lovely shell necklaces, a warm smile and a handshake. Our first stop was the famous Sigiriya Rock where we had planned a hike to the top. Unfortunately, and of course no fault of Anthony’s, it was pouring rain. Since the steps were slippery when wet, we decided to tackle the Rock another time. Instead, Anthony took us to a hardwood carving shop for a demo which was very interesting and then to the Buddhist Dambulla Cave Temple, an UNESCO World Heritage Site. During our comfortable car travels, we passed a huge herd of water buffalo and stopped to drink fresh King Coconut milk. The next activity was our very favorite of the day! Anthony set up a Village tour for us which included a bullock cart ride to the lake, a traditional catamaran ride to the mud house, where two local ladies demonstrated how to prepare traditional Sri Lankan foods that we later enjoyed as our lunch! It was a fascinating and terrific cultural experience that we will remember forever. A tuk-tuk took us back to our car. The last stop in the area was a batik textile shop where we learned how the printing and coloring is done. As it was time to head back to the ship, we stopped to visit the Fort Fredrick area and the Koneswaram Hindu Temple. In our opinion, this was an excellent tour. Anthony was knowledgeable, his English was very good and his suggestions for alternative activities due to the weather were the best! We highly recommend his services and hope to go back to Sri Lanka in the future for a longer stay.
