Ashok Silwal

Namaste

I had the pleasure of taking a tour with Ashok Silwal on my second day in Kathmandu.  Ashok greeted me and another traveler from the U.S. at the Themal Eco Resort on time and with a smile on his face.  We visited Swayambhu Stupa, Durbar Square, Boudhanath, and even had the chance to see the Living Goddess.  During the tour Ashok was full of life and energy.  He was passionate about his heritage, thoughtful and full of knowledge about his culture, and especially wanted us to search deep inside ourselves about the meaning of certain religious practices and how we find enlightenment from them.  I've been on many tours in other countries in the past where the information given I could have read from a book, but Ashok did not regurgitate information in such a way.  He made it so we could understand how people lived out their lives and most importantly why Kathmandu is such a sacred and holy place.  He knew about architecture, religion, food, music, and every part of the city we had questions about he had an answer for!  Ashok is a passionate guide who should always be recommended for future tours! 

I look forward to another tour with Ashok on my medical volunteer trip to Nepal in January!
