My Reviews
Pedro Wright
While we had a great time in Paraguay, there were a number of things we wished we knew going in. On the positive side, when we insisted, Pedro would do what we wanted to do (such as going ahead to the next location early or having lunch a little after noon) and when my glasses broke, he did make sure they were fixed first thing in the morning. He did have two reusable water bottles for us that were personalized and took the top of the chair in front of my aunt off so she could see better. He also had a cooler with ice for us to use and two large bottles of water if wanted any. Prior to the tour, he was very communicative and got information for us that we needed. We went in with high hopes and we really don’t like to complain, but there were a number of issues. The main issue my aunt and I had was he was very self involved and distracted. While driving, he was constantly on the phone- and would even text while driving which slowed him down and was very unsafe. He would often stop to talk on the phone or play with his phone while driving. He also made more stops for his errands than we expected (getting snacks along the way and stopping to enjoy them each day and talking to other people a lot, paying bills, dealing with another client whose tour was overlapping ours, meeting up with a friend to pay him for taking the first day of said tour, etc). He was very proud that he has his “stops” and was such a friendly person, but it took a lot of time away from what we were doing and ended up with us waiting for him repeatedly. Our biggest disappointment was that I specifically asked about starting a tour or doing a tour on Sunday because I was concerned that many places would be closed. Pedro convinced us that a four day tour was the ideal option and we would run into no issues going around on Sunday because everything was open. However, many places were either closed or only opened after he called a friend to open it up. When I mentioned that we were waiting a lot and that it seemed that many places (most of them) that we went to the first two days were closed on Sunday or Monday (whichever one we were there for) and it would have been better to do the tour in the opposite order, he double talked and insisted most people wouldn’t want the long drive after the flight. However, that should have been up to us. I think he didn’t think we would book the four day tour if he was honest, so he told us what we wanted to hear. My aunt and I didn’t think he was nearly as good of a guide as he thought he was or as he presented himself as. He was always looking to make more money or get kickbacks but at the end, we really felt we missed out on more than a few things. He stopped at a town that sold leather products we had no interest in and spent time there shopping for himself and we only went to Luque (the one town we really wanted to shop in) at the end of the tour and only got to go to one shop because the plans were so badly timed and the shops were closed on Sunday. There were serval things he insisted we do or see that we didn’t have interest in and he would drag these things out while chatting with other people there. Overall, it ended up feeling more like his tour than ours.
