Description

Lucca is the only Tuscan city whose Renaissance walls remain intact and walkable to this day. Though known by many nicknames - the "Musical Lucca" that saw the birth of artists like Luigi Boccherini and Giacomo Puccini, the "Lucca of the 100 churches", and the "Jungle of Towers" known for the number of medieval tower houses - it is "Mysterious Lucca" with its wealth of chilling tales, legends, and anecdotes that captivates one's attention the most. This Online Experience will take you through the highlights of Lucca and help you uncover its veil of mysteries.

We will begin at one of the city's most important points: the Piazza Napoleone, named after Princess Elisa Bonaparte; sister of the great Napoleon Bonaparte; and long the centre of the city's political activities. Then, we will make our way to the Piazza San Michele, once the seat of the ancient Roman forum. Today, an archangel greets visitors here from atop its church. As we walk on, you will learn the interesting stories behind this. You will also hear the stories of the beautiful Lucida Mansi and Mr Bernandini, who are said to have suffered unfortunate endings on account of having trusted the devil!

Next, we will visit the Cathedral of San Martino, where you will find and learn about a completely unexpected symbol. Moving on, we will admire the Amphitheatre where bloody battles took place in the Roman Period and then make our way to the enigmatic Guinigi Tower- a grand symbol of Lucca - and attempt to unravel its secrets.
