Description

Capital of Vaucluse, Provence and the Cotes du Rhone wine, seat of the popes, and city of art and culture: Avignon is a small city with hidden treasures waiting for been discovered. In this tour, you will learn about the fascinating history of the popes in Avignon that change the destiny of this town.
We will begin our live-streamed Online Experience from the terrace of “Le rocher de Doms," which overlooks the roofs of the old town and the shores of the Rhone - the largest river in France. Here, we will learn about the town's origins, before moving on to the 12th-century cathedral Notre Dame the Doms, where a famous Pope is buried.
Making our way downtown to Palace Square, we will see the impressive Pope’s Palace. This awe-inspiring building was constructed in the 14th-century, when the pope came to stay in Avignon. We will also marvel at the Petit Palais (a former cardinal’s residence now transformed into a museum), the fatuous baroque façade of the Mint, and the former building of the Bank of France which today serves as a restaurant.

This tour will also take you to some of the most iconic churches in Avignon, such as Saint Peter’s Church, after which we will see the synagogue located in the city's Jewish quarter. In the City Centre stands the 19-th century "Place de l’Horloge” or the Clock Square, where the city hall and the Opera await us. Having explored these, we will continue through a local market and towards the famous bridge known as "Le Pont d’Avignon". Here, we will stand and marvel at the medieval city walls and talk a bit about the history of Avignon before saying our final goodbyes.

I look forward to hosting you on this virtual tour!
