Highlights
  • Real-time walking tour from the live-streamed straight from the city of Almaty
  • Expert commentary on the most popular but still mystique places of our city – 28 Panfilov’s Guardsmen park and Ascension cathedral
Description

Our online walking tour will start from the Old gates, which used to be an entrance to the gymnasium complex more than 100 years ago. You will get to know Who nomads are and do they still exist in Kazakhstan

Then we will move to the park, one of the favourite destinations of the locals. This park keeps many secrets: graveyards, underground passages, and houses with ghosts!

We will also explore the beautiful Ascension cathedral, also known as Zenkov Cathedral, one of the world’s six tallest wooden buildings that have survived devastating earthquakes and mudflow from mountains. I will tell you interesting stories, such as how monks managed to hide all church icons and gold when the soviets came there.

We will finish our walking tour at the Eternal Flame Memorial commemorating the fallen of World War II and the Great Patriotic War, a giant black monument of soldiers from all 15 Soviet republics.

Meet your Host
Anna Degtyaryova

I’m a guide from Almaty. Why did I choose this profession? I travel a lot, and on my trips, I love to meet locals, who are sharing their city secrets and special places with travellers. Unfortunately, tour companies in Almaty mostly suggest standard tours, providing only plain information. But I want to show off the beaten paths of my city, to tell the stories of real people: how did they build the city, how they lived here, and what modern Almaty is. My tours are not a retelling of history books, but informative and interesting walk! And I’m sure after the tour guests will love Almaty the way I love it!
