Description

On this real-time streaming and interactive Online Experience, we will begin our exploration of Chefchaouen, the “blue pearl of Morocco" from Al Haouta Square, which was surrounded by inns in the old days so that the traders and the travellers could rest for a day before moving ahead. This square has a beautiful public water fountain like many others in the town. Listen to the meaning of the name "Chefchaouen" while walking through the narrow streets lined by blue houses. The houses are painted using natural pigments, which helps in maintaining the temperature inside. Get to know why these houses were painted with the colour blue and when did this start.
Then, we will reach a small bakery that has the oldest oven in the town. These ovens are used at restaurants as they are only allowed to use wood for the fire. And, we will continue our walk through the old houses, which have small doors. The reason behind it was that the person entering the house bows down as a gesture of respect. Oranges, Grape, and Fig trees can be seen everywhere in the town.
Walking through the lane of artists (painters and weavers), we will reach a shop where the man offers free mint tea to the passerby. Near this shop is one of the famous Instagram spots with blue stairs, a perfect place to take pictures. This is also the shopping area for tourists where you will see woollen clothes, paintings, natural colours being sold.
The next stop is Outta Al Hammam (Main Square) which is lively and surrounded by restaurants and cafes. Every year a music festival is held at this square. Then, we will enter the lanes selling the traditional Moroccan outfits, local cuisines and medicinal herbs. Finally, we will say our goodbyes at the gate, which is the divide between the old and the new parts of the town.
