Description

Join me on this live-streamed, interactive Online Experience to explore the most famous sights in Madrid and contextualise them against the various legends, stories, and artistic accomplishments that decorate the city!

We will begin our virtual tour at the Royal Palace. This is a rebuilt version of the palace - the earlier one was burnt in an unfortunate fire, the reason for which is unknown to this day. As we explore the complex, you will see how multiple statues of Spanish kings adorn it. On Wednesdays, this also serves as the site where the Change of Guards takes place - you may get to catch it in action!

Near the palace is located the new Cathedral, built in 1993 and a perfect example of a mixture Neo-Classical and Neo-Baroque styles. Walk down some narrow streets to reach the St. Nicholas Church and the Army Church, to make our way to Plaza de la Villa, an important square which housed the City Hall until recent times. We will then go through Elbow Street (why is it so named?) to a very famous food market in Madrid, which houses the oldest restaurant in the world (still functional!) and from where the old boundaries of the city are visible. At this juncture of our tour, you will also get to see the traditional Flamenco dresses and learn about the famous Flamenco dance of Spain.

Finally, we will say our goodbyes in the main Square of the city - the Plaza Mayor, surrounded by palaces-turned-restaurants, a blend of tradition and modernity.

I am an Art History and English Philology Student. Also, I am a Heritage Interpreter and an official tour guide. If I have to describe myself, I would say that I am crazy about Art, my specialities are literature and painting, and yes, I absolutely LOVE flamenco! It would be awesome to tell you all about the place where I live, Madrid, Spain's capital since 1561, an amazing city with plenty of secrets and stories.
My favourite artists? Such a difficult question! I really enjoy Picasso and Goya, but I think the number one would be Velazquez if I have to choose. My favourite place in Madrid? There is a place right between the Royal Palace and the Cathedral where you can see the two monuments from a privileged point of view...Actually, on this virtual tour, we will pass through that place!
