Description

Among the most striking man-made features of Jaisalmer, "the Golden City", is the Gadisar Lake, located in the Thar Desert almost 30 km away from the border with Pakistan. In this online experience, we will explore this beautiful artificial lake and learn more about how it was built by Maharawal Gadsi in the 14th Century to solve problems involving the scarcity of drinking water.

As we walk around, I will show you some of the special characteristics of this beautiful place. In the middle of the Lake, we will see a platform which served as a performing space for dancers and musicians. I will also show you another place on the lake, designed especially for the King, Queen and their guests to relax and enjoy the cultural programmes from. The lake surrounded by beautiful mountains that render it picturesque at all times of the day, and affords an even more compelling view around sunrise and sunset. All of this makes Gadisar Lake an ideal getaway for architecture lovers, culture enthusiasts, and peace seekers - and for you, when you join me on this virtual tour!
