Description

Barichara is known as the most beautiful town in Colombia. It was declared a national monument in 1978 in order to preserve its charming Spanish colonial architecture. Located on the Andean mountains between the ridge of a beautiful river canyon, the colonial town dates all the way back to the 18th-century and offers the perfect combination of stunning topography, gorgeous views, and ideal weather to be enjoyed year-round.
We will start this live-streamed Online Experience of Barichara from the town’s nice and green Main Square, which is surrounded by a beautiful Church and some of the oldest and nicest colonial houses and buildings. We will then walk uphill on the Calle Real, the main street in town. Moving along, we will make stops to allow you to get the "flavour” of the city with its clay tile roofs and thick rammed earth walls.

Meet and interview some locals, and see some unique Colombian exotic fruits, nice souvenirs, old-style general stores, houses, hotels, boutiques and restaurants as we proceed on our way. At the end of the street, we will find ourselves at Santa Barbara, the first chapel in town. Located on the upper edge of Barichara, this site will allow us access to a nice lookout point over the Suarez River Canyon where we can end our tour in picturesque bliss.

I look forward to seeing you on this tour and exploring the laid-back colonial streets of Barichara together!

Meet your Host
Rodrigo Martinez

I was born and raised in Bogota, Colombia, and started working as a tour guide there when I was 15 years old, following my passion for travel. Since then, I have travelled across this country and the five continents, living in the US, Canada, France, the Philippines and Vietnam for over 14 years before returning to Colombia and settling in beautiful Barichara. This surely is one of my favourite places in the world, and I would be delighted to guide you through it!
