Description

In this live-streamed Online Experience, I will guide you through the Ping Shan Heritage Trail, the first heritage walk in Hong Kong that opened in 1993. Appreciate the traditional constructions and the amazing rural development in the villages located along the way!

We will commence our walk at the Tsui Sing Lau Pagoda, the oldest pagoda in Hong Kong, and then head to acknowledge one of the most iconic walled villages, the Sheung Cheung Wai. Here, I will show you the water well that serves as a fish feed for purposes of Feng Shui and tourism, and enlighten you about its importance in earlier times. You will also learn about the correlation of our local God of Earth with farming, and how the villagers appease the deity to avoid bad luck.

Passing the Ting Building - also known as the Baby Boy House - we will examine some buildings from the 1940s that have gun holes in them. Continue towards the Yeung Hau Temple, one of the 7 temples dedicated to the old Chinese general who protected the emperor and helped him escape from China to Hong Kong. In the course of our heritage walk, I will enrich you with stories about Hong Kong's long-preserved traditions that have influenced our past and present, and more popular customs like Feng Shui make their way into everyday life here.

The next and final leg of our tour will go deeper into the Tang Clan's ancestral village. We will visit their Ancestral Hall to witness the finest constructions made in the old Chinese style, still in use to this date. Another ancestral building we will explore will be the Kun Ting Study Hall with its Soul Tablet, a building full of beautiful craftsmanship.

Come join me on this tour to see another facet of Hong Kong; a beautiful, traditional place far removed from its modern, glitzy look!
