Join this live-streamed, interactive online experience to get an overview of more than 2000 years of history of Mylapore, which was once a village, then a port town, and is now an integral part of Chennai. 

The highlight of our tour will be the Kapaleeshwarar Temple. As we walk around the majestic temple, I will dwell on the history and anecdotes associated with it, from the Shiva-Parvati legend to why the temple is built in a certain way. I will also highlight the architectural similarities between places of worship of other religions; to this end, I will plug in a short story of St. Thomas, one of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus, to help establish a vivid picture of religious diversity in Chennai.

I will give you insight into the significance of basic Hindu cultural practices like lighting a lamp, dancing, music, kolam, festivals, the significance of temple tanks, food, floral garlands, chariot procession, ethnic dress, etc. and how each of these plays a part in religious practices.
Before we finish, we will take a stroll around the adjoining areas to get a glimpse of the Temple Tank and peek into the daily activities of the locals.
