Description
Come and join me for a walk in the old part of Ahmedabad, India's first World Heritage City. We will begin this Online Experience from the beautiful temple of Kalupur Swaminarayan, the first temple of the Swaminarayan sect to have been built when the British colonial government-sanctioned land for it in 1822.
After exploring the temple, we will go for a heritage walk and explore old wooden "Havelis" or townhouses, all of which are between 100 and 200 years old and surprisingly intact despite several earthquakes and calamities. Marvel at beautifully sculpted doors that adorn traditional architecture and observe the local life of people as they go about their daily chores. Given my familiarity with the locals, you will be able to enter homes and see how customs and age-old traditions are observed in conventional surroundings. We will end our tour at the bustling local market- a real treat to appreciate the essence of the colourful nature of the people of Gujarat.
