Description

Founded in 1583, the University of Edinburgh is one of the ancient Scottish Universities which hark back to a time when there were more universities in Scotland than in England. On this online campus tour, we will start at the historic Old College which was built by Robert Adam in 1827. I will then take you along Chambers Street, past a number of  University departments and the the National Museum of Edinburgh, home to Dolly the cloned cheep. Edinburgh is renowned for its biogenetics.

Past the statue of the city's most famous dog Bobby, we will walk by the University Student Theatre Bedlam.  You will then head into the heart of the University, which is in the centre of Edinburgh rather than at an isolated campus. Visit the McEwan Hall, the magnificent location for graduation ceremonies and the student unions of Potterow and Teviot. Moving on, visit the leafy George Square, home to many important departments and the renowned University Library designed by Basil Spence. The tour will conclude across the green meadows, at the Pollock Halls student accommodation by Holyrood Park.

I am a Scottish Blue Badge Tourist Guide. I graduated in 2014 from the course which was run by the University of Edinburgh. I have been providing tours since 2009 all across Scotland, with a mix of walking, coach and incentive group tours. I also create video tours available on YouTube and social media. I have also worked in some of Edinburgh’s top attractions like Edinburgh Castle, the Palace of Holyroodhouse, the National Museum of Scotland, and the Real Mary King’s Close (did I say some, I meant all). I love Edinburgh, but I also like to get out of the city and show people the rest of this beautiful country.

I have several other parts of the country dear to my heart. I studied at Scotland’s first university, St Andrews for four years. I have also worked a lot over on the west coast at Kelburn Castle, performing in and helping run their large scale arts and music events.  I really enjoy walking and wildlife, so I do my best to explore the less populated parts of the country too.
