Description

Standing under the shadow of the colossal Misti Volcano, the "White City" of Arequipa is one of the most beautiful places in all of Peru. Join me on this Online Experience and we will go around looking at the best that Arequipa has to offer.

We will start our tour from the Bolognesi Bridge, which affords one an impressive view of the Misti and Chachani Volcanoes. After this, we will cross the bridge and walk to see the Main Square. Most cities in Peru have a ‘Plaza de Armas’ or a Main Square, but none are quite as attractive as the one at the heart of Arequipa’s historic centre. This part of the city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the centre point of activity.
The Basilica Cathedral on the Plaza de Armas dates back to the early 17th century and is one of the city's most important and unusual landmarks. Built from the volcanic stone also known as Sillar, it blends neoclassical, renaissance and gothic styles. After admiring the Cathedral, we will also visit a modest although arguably more interesting church, which is Iglesia de la Compania, located on the opposite corner of the plaza. The beautifully carved facade of this elegant Jesuit Church is the main attraction, a masterful display of the Churrigueresque style of design which was first made famous by the beautiful Churches of Seville.

I look forward to interacting with you on this tour!
