Description

Visiting Arezzo is a fantastic journey back in time! Join me on this exciting online experience to explore the town's medieval city centre.

We will start our tour from the City Hall square, where you will discover why Ferrari has the same symbol as Arezzo’s emblem. As we walk around, I will point out the big Cathedral and tell you why its construction was interrupted so many times. You will see Roman columns, too, that, according to legend, hide fascinating mysteries, and I will be happy to reveal them to you!
Together we will explore the most elegant streets of the city and the palaces with their original coats of arms. At the same time, I will regale you with some interesting facts about Arezzo: did you know that Michelangelo was born in this land or that musical notes do-re-mi-fa-sol were invented by a local monk here in the 11th century?
Passing by some beautiful antique shops, we will arrive at the heart of the historical centre, the Piazza Grande, surrounded by medieval towers and splendid Renaissance palaces. This is where the famous Joust of the Saracen takes place - a medieval competition between the city districts animated by medieval costumes, spears, shields, and coloured flags. Some of you are also likely to recognise the spots where the 1999 Oscar-winning movie "Life is Beautiful" was shot! I will show you the oldest church in Arezzo and its fascinating sculptures before concluding our tour with a pleasant walk along the main road to look at some shops, cafes, restaurants and the local scenery!
