Description

Prato is the third-largest city in central Italy, a “gem” often overshadowed by the nearby Florence. It is a city where you can find the perfect balance between ancient and modern times, and I would love to show you around its well preserved historical centre on this live-streamed Online Experience.
Our tour will start at the Duomo of Prato. We will walk around the Cathedral square with its imposing marble decoration and admire the peculiar Pulpit of Donatello, one of the most gifted sculptors of the Renaissance Era. Strolling down the main street, we will arrive at the Town Hall square, where the statue of Datini - one of the most important citizens of the Middle Ages, who revolutionised the banking business in Italy - awaits us. This square is also the site of the Palazzo Pretorio, the former palace of the high magistrate. It was recently turned into a museum, and displays paintings and sculptures that range from the Middle Ages to the 19th century.

Moving ahead, let us stop by a well-preserved original "House-tower" from the 13th century, and learn about some of the everyday habits of medieval citizens as we take a look around. At the Castle of the Emperor, we will marvel at the last remaining example of Suevian Architecture. On a visit to the stunning church of Santa Maria delle Carceri, I will tell you about its links to the renowned Medici family. Finally, we will end our tour at the beautiful brick church of St. Francis, which dates all the way back to the year 1282.

Meet your Host
Eleonora Galardini

I am gracefully in my 30s and I work as a tourist guide. My passion for travel began in high school when I began to study foreign languages. Later, I travelled extensively around Europe and became obsessed with the history of art. In 2013, I received a Bachelor's Degree in Restoration of canvases and wooden frames at LABA (Libera Accademia di Belle Arti) in Florence, and in 2016 I became a certificated Tourist Guide. Since then, my goal has been to make people's journey in Tuscany a wonderful experience.
The most beautiful part of my job is storytelling: I really enjoy sharing with other people the stories behind our ancient monuments and gossips about our main historical figures, to make them more human and let my clients have a taste of Italian “folklore”.
I hope to enhance your experience of the online tour by communicating through descriptions and anecdotes the charm of my beloved medieval hometown. As Dostoevsky wrote: “Beauty can save the world!” and I totally agree with him.
