Description

The name "Stari Grad" literally translates into "old town," and this is indeed one of the oldest towns in all of Europe. Join me in this real-time Online Experience, and I will take you around this gorgeous town where the blue of the bay meets the green of the vineyards and olive groves in blissful harmony.

We will begin our tour in front of the map of Stari Grad plain, Hora, established by Greeks in the 4th century BC. It today is one of the three UNESCO-recognised sites on Hvar island. A stroll through the charming alleys and squares of the old town will bring is to the site of the ancient colony of Pharos, which was built by the Greeks in 384 BC.
Next, we will admire the facades of St. Steven and then St. John, which are amongst the oldest early Christian churches on the island of Hvar. Going ahead, we will see an archaeological site with ruins from the Greek and Roman periods and inspect the remains of the ancient wall that once surrounded the ancient colony of Pharos.
Proceeding to the outdoors of the magnificent fortified church of St. Peter and the Dominican monastery, we will peek at some of the gardens that are tended to lovingly and plentifully by the locals. We will also take a short stop at the front of St. Roch before we come to the fortified home of our famous renaissance poet Petar Hektorovic. This place truly is the signature of Stari Grad town.

Continuing our stroll to the waterfront and seeing more of the historical sites, we will finally arrive at deep bay point, where fishermen come with their boats to sell their fresh fish and end our tour amidst the bustle and the blue.

Meet your Host
Predrag Hedl

I am a local guide for the island of Hvar and I have been working in this line of work for the last five years. I am totally in love with this place, very passionate about it, and love to share it with others. I love to meet new people and make new friends. For the last couple of years, I worked in a local tourist agency where I provided customers with both service and information. I know the island and can give some useful tips about where to go and what to check out. The aim of my job is not only to meet expectations but hopefully to even exceed them. This has always been my drive.
