Highlights
- Real-time experience streamed live from the city of Berlin
- Intriguing and harrowing stories around the building and crossing over of the Berlin Wall
- Highly interactive tour with your seasoned, knowledgeable tour guide
Description
In this Online Experience, I will walk you through the very conflict that defined the mid 20th Century, with Berlin at its centre - the Cold War. From the beginning of the Cold War in the post World War II era all the way to the building of the Berlin Wall that divided the city for 28 years and beyond, you will gain a detailed understanding of how the East and the West clashed, and how Berlin was a focal point between two very different ideologies - capitalism and communism.
I will guide you down the path of the Berlin Wall and tell you about how it was built literally overnight, as well as about some of the unbelievable and harrowing escapes people made. Hear stories such as how two families in East Berlin fashioned a hot air balloon out of their own clothing and flew over the wall to escape into West Berlin. Revel at how close the world came to being plunged into nuclear war between the United States and the Soviet Union when tanks were facing off against each other in the centre of Berlin.
Come and see the remnants of the wall itself, Checkpoint Charlie where East and West crossed, the Trabi cars that were omnipresent on the roads of East Germany and much more! This tour is perfect for people of all ages who have any interest in 20th-century history or just want to learn more about what life was like during the Cold War and on the eastern side of the Iron Curtain and the Soviet Union.
