Sapporo, Japan: Explore its exquisite architecture, exotic seafood and interesting culture

Red Brick Building (Former Hokkaido Government Office Building): I will start the tour in front of the gate of the Red Brick Building. I will talk about the history of Sapporo and the frontier spirit of Farmer Soldiers on seeing red stars on the wall of a roof cresting. From ISC, I will show an old picture and the red star used as a label for Sapporo Beer. Clock Tower: I’ll talk about its history, showing an old photo from ISC. Some tourists are surprised to find this building smaller than they expected. I will explain the reason why. TV Tower: We will move to West 1 block in Odori park, where it stands. I’ll talk about the feature of the TV Tower and explain Odori Park by showing pictures from ISC. Nijiyo Fish Market: I’ll talk about the history and show guests many kinds of fresh seafood. I’ll walk around the market and show them food models of “Kaisen Don” or rice bowls topped with sliced raw fish. Tanuki Koji (Raccoon dog shopping street); This shopping street is the oldest shopping district in Hokkaido. It accommodates 200 shops, including restaurants. I’ll show them the Raccoon shrine and explain the origin of the place. I’ll show them a Japanese kitchen knife shop, ramen noodle restaurants, an amusement arcade, a pachinko parlour and so on. During my session, I’d like to continuously talk with my guests and explain things they see downtown.

Meet your Host
Masayo Fujii

I live in Sapporo city, located in the northernmost prefecture in Japan. I work as a licensed tour guide, medical interpreter and dentist. This time I'd like to serve as your tour guide and introduce the Japanese Kimono culture. I have obtained a national tour guide license in 2009 and a Hokkaido regional tour guide license in 2010. I've been working as a tour guide for 9 years since 2012. I took care of tourists mostly in Hokkaido prefecture and Aomori prefecture (south of Hokkaido prefecture). I'd like you to deepen the Japanese culture and enjoy my Kimono experience.
