The New York University Campus and neighbourhood is in Greenwich Village, an older section of the city. This one hour, interactive virtual campus tour will start on 5th Avenue just inside Greenwich Village, outside a long- respected artist society building. To the North, you will see the Empire State Building. Then we will turn South, after peeking into a gated side street where cute little 19th-century carriage houses now house the language departments of NYU.

The campus of New York University is not like most colleges because there is no unified campus! Instead, Washington Square, or Washington Square Park, is the centre around which most of the buildings of the University are arranged. The tour goes into and around this 200 year old park, where you can see places for picnicking, a central fountain, kids on skateboards, playgrounds for the very young, and a dog walk. NYU owns a mixture of new provocative new buildings by A-list architects, and older industrial buildings that have been repurposed. We will go around to some of these buildings, new and old.  

After you see the park and some noteworthy buildings, we will stroll through MacDougal street, a wonderland of little shops and restaurants. Dining options are many.; vegetarian, Ethiopian, Arabic, and of course the staple of New York City college student diet: New York pizza. There are several pizzerias around here! There are clothing and other shops too. In fact there are 2 chess shops on this one street. The neighbourhood has several live performance clubs. One of them goes back to the folk music craze of the 1960s, but it also launched a the career of Lady Gaga not so long ago. And there are a couple of comedy clubs that headliners play at. Finally, we visit 6th Avenue to see basketball court where the city's top players compete and an International Film Commission cinema. It does not play Hollywood movies, but the best in documentary and International films.
