Description
This Online Experience will take you to Qorikancha, the Inca Temple of the Sun, where you will be acquainted with the customs and rituals of the Incas, one of the greatest civilisations in all of South America.
We will begin our tour from the facade of the Inca temple, where we will appreciate the types of architecture that were used in the construction from pre-Inca times until the arrival of the Spanish. I will also tell you more about the various techniques used by the Incas to carve the stones that were brought to this site from more than 25 kilometres away.
When we venture inside the Qorikancha Temple, we will find one of the most important ceremonial niches that, according to chronicles dating back to the 16th century, was where one of the greatest idols of the Inca empire used to rest. This idol is supposed to have been the size of a 9-year-old boy and was made in pure gold.
In the present day, the Qorikancha also houses a beautiful colonial church. This church houses various striking paintings made by Cusco artists in the 17th century, depicting the evangelisation of indigenous people. As we appreciate these, I will tell you more about the mighty Incas and all the other ways in which their legacy lives.
