Marvel at the Icons of Mostar

Mostar is famous for its Old town, with the Ottoman Old Bridge from 1566 as its centrepiece. It's been on the UNESCO list since 2005, and the whole city has a rich history spanning from the Middle Ages to the 21st century. We will visit the Old Bridge with its surrounding areas: on the right side of the river Neretva is the part called Priječka čaršija, with places of interest like the Ottoman hammam built in 1667 and a small mosque built by the local craftsmen back then. On the other side of the river is the street with the best view in the city, called Kujundžiluk, after the Ottoman goldsmiths who used to have their workshops here. The walk will take us along the upper parts of the street towards the end, next to the city market Tepa, originally built during the Ottoman period. Mostar is a city of interest also beyond the Old town: there is a famous WW2 memorial (see photos)shaped like a large piece of land art. The city park has the world's first memorial of Bruce Lee. Also, there's the Spanish square with the imposing building of Gymnasium built in the 19th century during the Habsburg government (see photo). This is a separate sightseeing that can also be booked for those who are interested in other parts of our heritage.

Description

Mostar is famous for its Old town, with the Ottoman Old Bridge from 1566 as its centrepiece. It is on the UNESCO World Heritage list since 2005, and the whole city has a very rich history that goes as far back as the Middle Ages.

In this live-streamed interactive online experience, we will visit the Old Bridge of Mostar and its surrounding areas. On the right side of the river, Neretva is the Prijecka Carsija, with places of interest like the Ottoman hammam built in 1667 and a small mosque built by local craftsmen around the same time. On the other side of the river is a street called Kujundžiluk, after the Ottoman goldsmiths who used to have their workshops here; it has the best view in the city. The virtual walk will take us along the upper parts of the street towards the end, next to the city market Tepa, originally built during the Ottoman period.

Mostar is a city of interest also beyond the Old town: there is a famous WW2 memorial here, and in the city park, we will find the world's first memorial of Bruce Lee. Then there's the Spanish square with the imposing building of Gymnasium built in the 19th century during the Habsburg government.

Meet your Host
Mirko Bozic

I am an experienced certified local guide in Mostar for German and English-speaking tourists. I also do excursions in the surrounding area of the city and am active in cultural management. There are a lot of stories of this enchanting city that you can only hear from locals, and I would like to share them with you. To this end, I have also authored a book on this beautiful city, which has received great feedback.

    Thank you so much Mirko!

It was wonderful to see Mostar through Mirko's eyes. He has lots of knowledge as he is a local and has also studied the local history with his research when writing his book. We learnt lots of interesting facts and he was entertaining and had a great sense of humour. Mostar is beautiful and we got see so many beautiful spots and hidden places. He showed us things that we were never shown when we were on a tour with another guide in Mostar 2019 (before the pandemic). A great way to see Mostar without the summer crowds. In the background you could hear Mostar life; metal smiths working on copper, call to prayer and see locals going about their daily lives. We hope to return to Mostar in the future and would choose Mirko as a guide. You can tell he has a deep emotional connection to the city, which really brings the tour alive.

    Thank you!
