Description

On June 6th, 1944, just before dawn, Arromanches' civilians saw the Allied armada's first shellfires light up the sky. This quiet little town was about to make the history of becoming the busiest harbour in the world. Situated between Omaha beach and Gold beach, the Allied Forces decided to make Arromanches one of their two artificial harbours.

Join me for a virtual walk alongside the beach to look at the remarkable remains of the 1944 harbour and head into this small town up to the medieval church. In this Online Experience, I will take you back in history to WW2 and help you find traces of the Allied Forces' artificial harbour and grasp the ingenuity required to achieve this architectural feat.

After ambling along the beach, we will head inside the small town to find out how the Allied Forces caught the Germans completely off-guard on the D-Day. Also, find out what life used to be like for the locals during WW2.

Meet your Host
Anne Gosselin

I was born and raised in Normandy, near Sainte-Mère-Eglise. Both my grandparents and parents lived through the landing and the liberation of their village. On D-Day, my father's family heard the British troops landing on Sword Beach, and 3 days later, my mother's family was liberated by the American soldiers arriving from Omaha. After travelling and living in several countries, I returned to my homeland to become a professional guide with a passion for sharing the amazing and sometimes deadly history of Normandy.
