Description

This tour will start with an introduction to a brief history of the Steelpan. We will cover the techniques on how to play as well as learn the basics of the musical alphabet. You can download a steelpan app on your phone and learn to play a basic song along with me. This is going to be an interactive activity and I will be happy to answer any questions that you have.

Originating from Trinidad and Tobago, the Steelpan consists of pans made out of steel drum containers. It is struck with a pair of sticks having rubber tips. Popular in Caribbean communities, the pan is the national instrument of Trinidad and Tobago

I have learnt music theory through ABRSM, the Royal School of Music in London, and have been playing the Steel Pan since I was 11 years old through one of the most qualified teachers in the country, Mr Ronald Mathews. I am qualified in the area of Steel Pan Music teaching on the Island of Trinidad and Tobago. I am capable of teaching children and adults and even qualified musicians alike.
