Description
Learn a piece of Peruvian dance with me. We will start with a short introduction of Afro Peruvian history (XVI Century), and how it evolved over time. You will learn how this dance form developed because of the conditions of the time. I will explain the musical instruments and costumes.
Then, we will start the warm-up while listening to a soft version of Festejo.
Next, I will teach you the basic steps and we are going to dance to an amazing song by Peruvian performers. As this is a good work out, we are going to end it with a good stretch.

You will require the following:
- Comfortable clothes to practice the dance moves
- Towel

I’ve been a professional tour guide for over 17 years. I have taken lessons in Peruvian folklore since primary school and in college, as part of my curriculum to become a licensed guide. I’ve also been taking lessons in Latin American dances, ballet, and Spanish Folklore for years.

I took my first class with Desi on Festejo and it was great! If you like history and dance, you will love her class. She is really knowledgeable of the history in Peru and a great dancer! I love how she incorporates the history into the dance. She is a great instructor and enjoyable person to dance along with. She puts love and passion on her lesson. She tells you why the dance is the way it is and the history behind it. I highly recommend her class! If you like to move your hips and get a work out at the same time, take join her !

This was one of the best experiences! Dessie is such a great dance instructor and was a blast to work with! In just one hour, I learned The Afro Peruvian Festejo dance. I highly recommend taking this dance class! It was so much fun and a good workout! I took my first class solo but plan on booking my next one with family and friends. I’m looking forward to working with Dessie again and improving more of my dance moves!
