Description
Uncover the incredible story of the first allied soldiers that landed in Normandy on D-Day. As a prelude to Normandy's invasion on June 6th 1944, a small group of British soldiers were brought in by gliders to capture two vital bridges north of the city of Caen. These two bridges on the Orne river and Orne canal were of strategical importance to both Allied and German forces. Under the leadership of legendary British officer Major John Howard, 180 men divided into 6 gliders landed within yards of the bridges and achieved the first Allied victory of the invasion!
During this live-streamed Online Experience, you will get to see these glider landings sites, cross the bridge on the Orne canal, and hear the story of these heroic soldiers, from those that piloted the gliders to those that assaulted the bridges. Also, you will get to look at the first liberated house in France, which is still standing more than 75 years later!

Meet your Host
Pierre-Samuel Natanson
I was born in 1987 in Cherbourg, Normandy. I grew up here, nurtured by the stories of Europe from my grandparents. As a child, I used to visit the sites of the battle of Normandy and grew a passion for WWII history. I went on to study military history at King’s College London and Caen University.
I started leading tours for the Caen Memorial Museum in 2012. During these fruitful years, I completed my knowledge of both the history and the geography of Normandy. This allows me to offer a rich, enlightening and friendly experience of one of the hardest battles ever fought in human history.
I became an independent guide in 2017, after several years of guiding on the Normandy battlefields. This allows me to offer a unique experience of Normandy. I offer tailor-made private tours of the battle of Normandy sites for guests. I seek to offer a once in a lifetime experience and a deep insight into these formidable events. My objective is to share years of accumulated knowledge, experiences and stories with you.
