Join this interactive online experience live-streamed from Florence, and discover why the historic city is known as "the Cradle of the Renaissance". This virtual tour is led by a local tour guide and art historian and will shed special light on the Birth of Renaissance - Donatello, Brunelleschi, and the beginning of modern European history - and give special focus to Renaissance-era statues and their symbology.
To get you familiarised with medieval symbolism, we will begin this tour from Cathedral Square, where you will see the medieval works by Giotto on the bell tower. We will head to the Orsanmichele Church, where you will get to admire some of the greatest, most iconic statues from the concerned period, such as Donatello's Saint George, Saint Matthew by Ghiberti and Madonna of the roses by Pietro di Giovanni Tedesco. You will also learn to distinguish between a Renaissance statue and a Medieval one.
This tour will end in Piazza Signoria, where you will witness the features of the High Renaissance and explore the statues attributed to the famous Cellini, Ammannati, and Giambologna.
