Description

Walk along the streets of Utrecht, the fourth largest town of the Netherlands in this Online Experience. It is one of the few Dutch cities with a Roman presence; however, it was the middle ages that defined the character of this town. It was after all the centre of the catholic church in that time which explains why the highest church spire of the country can be found in Utrecht.

Nowadays, religion does not play a vital role in the Netherlands, and many churches have pivoted to new function; one of them has even been transformed into the Organ Museum, which you will visit during this tour. Thanks to the university, it is a young and vibrant place. And that explains why Utrecht is the place where old and new coexist in perfect harmony!

Ton Van Garderen

I am a Social Geographer and a certified national tour guide, I have a strong interest in history, architecture, art, society. In 1986, I graduated in Social Geography. Thereafter I worked for the city of Amsterdam in town-planning. There I discovered that office life is not my cup of tea. In 1994, I decided to make a living out of guiding in Amsterdam and other Dutch towns. I never regretted that decision. Working with people and sharing knowledge is big fun!
