Description
On this Online Experience, come join me to explore the historical city of Colonia de Sacramento, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. I will lead you through the city's delightful sights and introduce you to the historic Portuguese and Spanish influence in the area from the 1680s till now. Three sides of the city are surrounded by the Rio de la Plata river, which gave it a strategic advantage; many wars were therefore fought between European colonisers to gain control of this city.
As you explore the cobbled streets, you will learn to distinguish Portuguese and Spanish streets through the architecture and other cultural markers they have left behind. You will get to visit Main Square and the eponymous lighthouse and church to get a better idea of the place and its cultural history. Proceeding with the virtual walk, you will then get to admire the distinctive roof tiles and colourful houses around the city, the Colonia de Sacramento Museum, and the library. Also, keep an eye out for the beaches and surreal views of the Rio de la Plata river.
