Description

Tiwanaku is the most important archaeological site in all Bolivia. Even though this ancient city collapsed around 200 years before the Inca civilization appeared, the site is still famous for its detailed and precise work in big blocks of andesite and sandstone.

We will start this live, interactive Online Experience by visiting the temple dedicated to Mother Nature or Pachamama, which boasts a collection of enigmatic carved heads mounted on walls and the oldest monolith found on-site. Proceed to explore Kalasasaya, the grand temple dedicated to the Sun God, where we will appreciate the fine and detailed work on a single 20-ton piece of stone, Sun Gate. The Sun Gate is considered to be the symbol of Tiwanaku because its workmanship is unique.

Finally, I will take you to see the beautifully carved stone monoliths of Ponce and Fraile, the leaders of this civilisation.

Marisol Maydana

Hi, I was born in La Paz, but I'm very proud of my Aymara culture roots. I have gained an education in tourism from the public university in my town. I chose this field because I am passionate about the diversity of cultures and my country's natural beauty for my love of travelling. My ancestors came from Tiwanaku, and I am thrilled and delighted to share the local traditions and legends of this culture.
