Description
- We will begin up high above the hamlet in front of the 17 th century ex Saint Francis Monastery. The view is breathtaking, with terraced vineyards on our right and Vernazza’s castle in front of us overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.
- We antique descend stone steps and secret alleyways to Vernazza’s main street, where lively shops and colourful aristocratic houses greet us and lead us to the main square, the antique port and the essentially beautiful 14 th century church of Santa Margherita di Antiochia.
- We will stroll to the end of the harbour underneath the early 13 th century Genovese defensive tower, Torre Belforte, to get a complete view of stunning Vernazza and the Mediterranean Sea and then return to the square; Vernazza’s center of community life, its fishing boats, cafes and “trattorie” (traditional local food restaurants) and begin our climb to the most spectacular view of Vernazza; up high above its harbour. Gardens appear through a steep medieval stone stairways and alleyways with their luscious plants and beautiful light. The atmosphere envelops us.
