Join me for a stroll through the narrow streets of the old town of Heidelberg on this live-streamed Online Experience. I will give you an overview over the long history of Heidelberg, as well as some insights on everyday life and some inspiration for your future trips to Heidelberg. 

We will start our virtual tour with a unique impression of the Heidelberg Castle - the biggest Castle ruin in Germany, and one that has served as the seat of some of the most powerful rulers in the country's history (no wonder, then, how it attracts over one million visitors each year!). However, there's a bigger story to the castle than meets the eye, and as we walk around, I will tell you more about some major events, such as how Heidelberg was destroyed two times and built back up again. 

Next, we will follow the “Hauptstrasse” (or the Main Street) and take a look at its several squares that are decorated with statues and fountains. We will also visit other historical buildings, such as the unique renaissance building known as the Hotel Ritter that dates as far back as 1592. Walking along, we will make our way to the two big churches that tower over the old town: one a gothic cathedral and the oldest in the city, the other a beautiful baroque church built by the Jesuit order.

Finally, we will head towards Heidelberg University, the oldest University in Germany, and get some insights into how student life influences all life in Heidelberg. We will end the tour on the “Old Bridge”, taking in the lovely view looking down at the “Neckar” valley and up to the Heidelberg Castle.
