Explore the Historical Centre of Lima

This Online Experience will allow you to visit the most representative buildings of the historical center of Lima city in Peru, all from the comfort of your own home! Starting in Trujillo's bridge, which is the oldest colonial construction standing in the city, we make our way downtown and explore the Church of Santo Domingo in front o the Shoe Shiners Square, at which point we will unpack the story of the 7 year old "petiso" boy. We will continue on to the Plaza Mayor with its view of several important buildings of Lima, visit the pedestrian "Ucayali" street that gives Lima its status of the "balcony city," and visit the San Francisco Square in front of the famed convent of an epoynmous saint. From this point, the tour continues in direction to the Plaza Mayor, the main square of the city. Surrounded by the most important buildings of Lima such as the Cathedral, Archbishop Palace, City Hall and Government Palace, the square are the heart of the political and religious life of the city and the country. The tour will continue in direction to the pedestrian "Ucayali" street where we will have the chance to see the most elaborate balconies of all the monumental area. This street ends on Abancay avenue. In this avenue, we will take a look at the daily life of the Limenians and the chaotic traffic of the city. On this avenue, we will also be able to see the congress and the inquisition headquarters (yes, the Spanish inquisition one also reached America's). Returning to the old city we will visit the San Francisco square located in front of the monumental church and convent of San Francisco. After an explanation of the rich history of this religious order in the country, we will finish this tour. This experience will give you a better understanding of the history, culture and daily lives of the inhabitants of one of the most diverse cities in the continent, and will be a great introduction of the reality of Peru in case of a future in-person visit.

During this live online tour, we will visit the buildings that best represent the historical centre of Lima city. Starting at Trujillo's bridge, the oldest colonial construction standing in the city, we will enter downtown through the path that gets to the city from the north side. The first interesting point on the way will be the convent and church of Santo Domingo with its high tower. This beautiful construction is located in front of the shoe shiners square, a lovely point of the city where we will learn the story of the 7-year-old "petiso" boy. 

From this point, the tour continues in direction to the Plaza Mayor, the main square of the city. Surrounded by the most important buildings of Lima such as the Cathedral, Archbishop Palace, City Hall and Government Palace, the square are the heart of the political and religious life of the city and the country.
