Description

Join this Online Experience to visit two ancient temples in the old city of Chiang Mai. We will start from Wat Chedi Luang, formerly known as Wat Chotikaram. The temple was constructed in 1391, dedicated to the merits of the King's ancestors and has the biggest stupa in Northern Thailand. However, the roof of the stupa collapsed in 1545 due to a massive earthquake. You will have the opportunity to view the city pillar shrine, where only male devotees are allowed. After taking a walk outside, proceed inside the principal chapel to see the biggest standing Buddha image in the old city and see the devotees praying and performing religious ceremonies.
Next, you will visit Wat Pan Tao, which is located close to Wat Chedi Luang. It was the former site for the casting process of Pra Attharos - the big standing Buddha image in Wat Chedi Luang. Your guide will highlight interesting features, such as how the principal assembly hall of the temple is made of teak wood. The building was reconstructed after the reign of Phra Chao Mahotra Pradesh, the fifth king of the Thippa Chakra dynasty, using the materials of his former reception hall.
