Experience the cross-culture of Hakodate

The Motomachi area is located on the western side of the foot of Mt. Hakodate, which is symbolic of Hakodate. The area used to be the central part of the town. After the samurai government was overturned by the modern government, Hakodate thrived as an international port town and had more than 10 consulates.

It will also cover churches such as St John's Church, an English priest founded in 1874, and the Nippon Orthodox Church, which is currently under repair. And we will also cross the Chacha-Nobori and the Hachiman Zaka slopes.

Meet your Host
Fumiko Takano

I was born and raised here in Hakodate. I studied at Western Washington University in Bellingham, USA, from the year 2000 to 2003. I have been working as a tour guide since 2014. I wanted to use the medium of English language in order to introduce my hometown to foreign visitors. I have learned a lot about Hakodate since then. The Motomachi area is a must-visit attraction for tourists visiting Hakodate. I hope to share the area with you.

Fumiko san told us this is her first virtual tour. She did very well, am impressed! She was trying her best amidst the heavy snow. Explained in good English, and was very clear.
We are thinking of having this virtual tour again maybe in spring!
