Discover Bucharest, 'The Little Paris Of The East'

Bucharest was nicknamed "the Little Paris" in the early 1900s, not only for the elegant buildings designed by French architects, but also for the fact that locals were starting to use the French language frequently, wore the latest Paris fashions bought directly from the Lafayette Galleries department store opened in the heart of the Romanian capital, and would travel to and study in France’s capital.

Description

Bucharest was nicknamed "Little Paris of the East" in the early 1900s, not only on account of the elegant buildings designed by French architects, but also for the fact that locals were starting to use the French language frequently, wore the latest Paris fashions bought directly from the Lafayette Galleries department store opened in the heart of the Romanian capital, and would travel to and study in France’s capital. Join me in this Online Experience, and we will uncover all that is Parisian and Romanian about the lovely city of Bucharest.
We will begin our tour with a walk along the most enchanting avenue of Bucharest, Calea Victoriei (Victory Avenue). I will point out to you the beautiful buildings designed by French architects in the late 1800s that dot it on both sides and tell you more about their restoration. We will also visit the Arcul de Triumf - a replica of Napoleon's Arc de Triomphe in Paris - that was built as a commemorative monument after the first World War. As we walk along admiring the city's beauty, I will regale you with information about how the buildings you see relate to the history of Bucharest and the Hohenzollern royal family that ruled it. We will also compare this to the changes made during the Communist period in Romania.

Join me on this tour, and let us explore the Little Paris of the East from the inside out!

I have been a full-time licensed guide in Bucharest for the past 5 years and offer private tours in other beautiful and historical parts of Romania too. I was born and raised in Bucharest and it is the place that I love most, even sometimes a high temptation comes to me to move to one rural area in Transylvania or in Maramures for good.

I am a passionate traveller, and I always want to make sure my guests have a great experience when visiting Bucharest, whether in person or virtually. I would love to show you around the beauty of wonderful Romania!
