Description

Cover some of the scenic, historical, geological and cultural highlights of Swaziland during this 4-hour-long tour of Ezulwini Valley and Mbabane. Visit the old Ngwenya Iron ore mine and the Ngwenya Glass showroom and factory. Stop at the scenic Komati river valley, 'The Dragons' Teeth' hills and the Maguga Dam Wall to enjoy the stunning natural beauty of these areas.

Highlights
  • Spot the massive rock monolith, a prominent geological feature of Swaziland
  • Take in the photogenic views while driving through the district roads back to pine valley
  • Discover the best of Mbabane and Ngwenya expand_more
    • Meet your guide at an agreed-upon location.

    • Drive to Mbabane, Swaziland's capital city; a short background to the capital city's history is provided before the tour continues north to Malolotja Nature Reserve. Here the old Ngwenya iron ore mine is a significant feature. There is a small museum to view and an optional 30-minute guided walk to the Lion Cavern. This relatively modest hallowing is undisputedly the excavation point of the oldest human remains in the world (circa 43000 BC). Although now dwarfed by the iron ore excavation, it remains a fascinating insight into the stone age's history.

    • Stop at the Ngwenya Glass showroom and factory, which allows visitors to watch local artisans create art such as animal sculptures and exquisite tableware.

    • Continue further north towards the scenic Komati river valley. A stop is made at the 'Dragons' Teeth' point, an accessible example of the original sedimentary crust of the earth. The ancient rocks here give clues to the earliest life forms on earth.

    • Make your way to the 110m. high Maguga Dam Wall to take in the scenic beauty of this area.

    • The return route to your hotel goes off the beaten track via district roads back to pine valley. These photogenic roads let you peek at the rural Swazi community areas.

    • Pass by the massive rock monolith en route to your hotel as the last highlight of the trip.
    • The guide will drop you off at your accomodation in Mbabane after that.
