Sign up for the trekking trip in Argentina and trek through the highest mountain in America- the Aconcagua Summit. Camp at Plaza de Mulas, also called "place of mules", one of the largest base camps in the world and explore the city of Mendoza, known for its world-class restaurants and spa! This program is a great preparational step before the actual 'Seven-Thousanders'.

  • Day 1- Arrive in Mendoza expand_more
    • Arrive in Mendoza and transfer to a hotel.

    • Go on introductory walks around the city and check the equipment.

  • Day 2- Head to the Confluence expand_more
    • Transfer to Penitentes (2700m), sending the main cargo on mules to the Base Camp. 

    • Head towards the National Park entrance (Laguna Horcones) and proceed to the Confluence (3300m, 2-3 hours). 

    Overnight at Camp.

  • Day 3- Walk to Plaza de Francia expand_more
    • Go on the acclimatization radial walks to Plaza de Francia (4200m) in the company of Argentine mountain guides, with views of the South Face (2700m high; 4-5 hours) 

    • Return to the camp.

  • Day 4- Reach Base Camp at Plaza de Mulas expand_more
    • Take a long walk (8-9 hours) to the main base camp Plaza de Mulas (4350m). 

    • Cover the path that runs along the broad valley of Playa Ancha. 

    Overnight at Camp.

  • Day 5- Climb to the glacier, Orkones expand_more
    • Rest in Plaza de Mulas (4350m) and later, set off on a short climb to the Orkones glacier.

    Overnight at Camp.

  • Day 6- Head back to Camp-1 expand_more
    • Trek from Plaza de Mulas to Camp-1 (Plaza Canada, 5000m). 

    Overnight at Camp.

  • Day 7- Cover the Trails to Camp 2 at Nido de Condores expand_more
    • Leave Plaza Canada and head towards Camp 2 (Nido de Condores, 5400m), 

    Overnight at Camp.

  • Day 8- Trek to Cholera Camp expand_more
    • Climb to Cholera Camp (6000m). Later, descend to Plaza de Mulas (4350m).

  • Day 9- Rest day expand_more
    • Take a rest day in Plaza de Mulas (4350m).

  • Day 10- Set off for Nido de Condores expand_more
    • Ascend from Plaza de Mulas (4350m) to Nido de Condores (5400m).

  • Day 11- Explore the Ways to Cholera expand_more
    • Climb from Nido de Condores (5400m) to Camp 3 (Cholera, 6000m).

  • Day 12- Ascent to Aconcagua Summit expand_more
    • Attempt the Aconcagua summit ascent (6957m).

    • Descend to Camp 3 (6000m).

  • Day 13- Reserve Day expand_more
    • Reserve a day in case of bad weather.

  • Day 14- Reserve Day 2 expand_more
    • Reserve a day in case of bad weather.

  • Day 15- Descend to Plaze de Mulas expand_more
    • Descend to Plaza de Mulas Base Camp.

  • Day 16- Enjoy the Farewell Dinner expand_more
    • Trek from the Base Camp to Laguna de Horcones. 

    • Transfer to Mendoza. 

    • Take part in some recreational activities and enjoy a farewell dinner.

  • Day 17- Departure expand_more
    • Transfer to the airport to head back to your onward destination.

Know before you go
  • The expedition to Aconcagua begins in the resort town of Mendoza, also called Argentina's grape capital. This town is situated at an altitude of 800 meters above sea level. On arrival at Mendoza, you can sleep and rest.
  • The first transition to the camp Confluence (3300m) is quite simple and takes only three to four hours (some participants go through this part of the route in 1.5 hours!). 
  • Climbing to the summit of Aconcagua is planned for the 12-14th day, depending on the weather and participants well-being.
  • After the ascent, you descend to the base camp and celebrate the expedition's success. 
  • There are more than a thousand wineries in the city. Alpinists can participate in fine wine tasting and buy the drinks they like.
