  • Hunza Valley, paradise on earth, is a mountainous valley located in Gilgit. The main town Karimabad (formerly known as Baltit) is the capital as well as the most popular tourist destination in Hunza. As famous as the valley is for its beauty, the people of Hunza are also well-known for their friendliness and hospitality. Unlike most places in Pakistan, Hunza valley has a very high literacy rate of more than 90%.

  • Hunza’s tourist season is generally from May to October, because in the winter the Karakoram Highway is often blocked by snow.

  • Balti Fort in the Hunza Valley is an ancient fort dating back 700 years and has been on the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List. Rebuilt and altered over the centuries, the fort is located at a height and can be reached only on foot or by jeep. From its terrace, one can enjoy a splendid bird’s eye view of the houses in Karimabad.

  • Borith Lake located near Gulmit, Gojal, in the upper Hunza area is roughly 2600m (8500 feet) above sea level. The lake can be reached via a 2 km unpaved jeep route from Husseini village, and is also accessible by a 2-3 hour trekking route directly from Ghuylkin.

  • Located in the Gilgit-Baltistan region, which is also home to K2 - the second highest peak in the world, Hunza Valley is well-known for its many trekking routes.

  • Hunza is also famous for its local delicacies, which are served at most of the restaurants located in the Karimabad market area. Sharbat, Diram-Fete, Davdo, Muleda, amongst many others, are just a few of the traditional foods available. Cooked in pure butter and drowned in oil, these dishes are prepared only on occasion as they are expensive.

  • There are at least 50 shops, restaurants, and hotels located on Karimabad’s bustling streets. One of the biggest attractions in this area is the variety of precious and semi-precious minerals and gemstones. Many tourists visit the Gilgit-Baltistan area for this reason.

  • From low to high budget, Hunza has them all. You can find the best hotels in Hunza.

  • Hunza is very safe and the people are known for their hospitality. Similar to all Pakistan cities, it is best to dress modestly. Women must cover their shoulders and knees, and couples should avoid public displays of affection.

  • Pakistan Rupees, all International credit cards (Visa, MasterCard) are accepted at the ATMs.
