Embark on the Santa Cruz Trek, a major trekking route in the Cordillera Blanca mountains. See the view of stunning mountainscapes, pristine glacier lakes, waterfalls, valleys and mountain lakes (Ichiccocha and Jatuncocha) in this incredible trip to the highest point of the trek - Punta Union. 

Highlights

  • Day1 - Huaraz (3100 m) – Caraz (2200 m) – Cashapampa village at (2970m) - Llamacoral camp. at (3760m) (Trek time: 4 hours (ascend) / driving up time: 3 hours) expand_more
    • Depart from Huaraz at 7:00 am. and drive to the north side of Huaraz along Callejon de Huaylas on the paved road until Caraz at 2200 m. Deviate to the northeast on the dirt road until Cashapampa village at 2970 m.
    • Start walking up along narrow Santa Cruz Valley with sparkling waterfalls, groves & high land bushes and trees until a wide meadow, where the campsite is located with a spectacular view to the background about Mount Taulliraju. 

    Overnight camp at Llamacoral.

  • Day 2- Llamacoral camp(3760 m) – Arhueycocha Lake (4450 m) –Taullipampa camp. at (4250 m) (Trek time: 8 hours) expand_more
    • Start walking up on grass meadow, passing by beautiful mountain lakes of Ichiccocha and Jatuncocha lake. 

    • Hike up on the Santa Cruz valley until Quisuar.

    • Walk up on a steep hill, but the trail winds up on zig-zag until Alpamayo viewpoint above Arhuaycocha gorge and Arhuaycocha lake at 4450 m.

    • Relax and enjoy the splendid summit view of the majestic mountains of Alpamayo and another peak.

    • Come back on the same route up until the Alpamayo viewpoint, and the route leads to the isolated Taullipampa campsite.

    Overnight camp at Taullipampa.

  • Day 3- Taullipampa camp (4250 m) – Punta Union Pass at (4750 m) – Cachinapampa camp. at (3700 m) (Trek time: 7 hours) expand_more
    • Start walking up towards Punta Union, which is the highest point of this trek. 

    • On the pass, enjoy the most spectacular & panoramic view surrounded by huge mountains as Mount Taulliraju, Artezonraju, Pucajirca, other peaks and turquoise lakes.

    • Descend on the slope and the rocky trail toward the Huaripampa valley. Seeing small glacier lakes, waterfalls & high land groves and trees, reach the campsite at Cachinapampa on Huaripampa valley.

    Spend the last camp night at Cachinapampa.

  • Day 4- Cachinapampa (3700 m) – Vaqueria village (3700 m) – Huaraz (Trek time: 2 hours (descend) / driving time: 4 hours) expand_more
    • Start walking down on flat valley road with some sections of Quenual & Quisuar forest. The trail is almost easy until the Huaripampa village.

    • Climb up until the Vaqueria settlement, there the private transport will be waiting to drive Huaraz.

    • On the road, pass on Portachuelo pass, and drive down from Llanganuco valley to Yungay to Huaraz.

Know before you go
  • Located on the north side of Huaraz, it’s one of the most popular treks in the Cordillera Blanca, with a magnificent mountain view from Punta Union pass at 4750 m. such as mount Alpamayo, Quitaraju, Artezonraju, and Taulliraju. With the beautiful landscape along Huaripampa valley, watch an incomparable view of pristine glacier lakes.

  • Maximum altitude: 4750 m (Punta Union pass).

  • Difficulty:  Moderate.

  • Duration: 4 days / 3 nights.

  • Preferred time: April – October.

  • Average temperature: Between 13° C – 23° C during the day/ at night -03°C to – 1°C.


Important Advice:

  • Do an early booking to get special discounts. 

  • For booking validation deposit 40% of the total price, and pay the rest 60% after arrival in Peru or Huaraz.

  • Accommodation service has hot water, private bathroom, TV with cable connection, restaurant, cafe shop, which is located downtown

  • Bus service from Lima – Huaraz – Lima with “Cruz del Sur or Movil tours” with Wi-Fi connection.
