Description

First known as Kantipur, today's Kathmandu will offer you some of the best examples of old Newari architecture. This city of contrast will be bustling with little cars and noisy motorbikes as people try to get around the crumbling old streets. This heritage walk follows one of the most historic routes in Kathmandu, from Thamel through Ason to Indrachowk before leading to Kathmandu Durbar Square.

  • Traffic, both of mechanical nature and human fills this heritage walk. There are efforts to limit motorized traffic in the area, but human traffic continues, and it's all part of enjoying this market-packed area. Kathmandu Durbar Square is the capital city's number one tourist attraction. It was a part of the Nepal Royal Palace until 1896—several monuments in Kathmandu Durbar Square date back to the 17th and 18th centuries.
